Thor Heyerdahl was a Norwegian ethnographer and adventurer with a
scientific background in zoology and geography. Heyerdahl became famous
for his Kon-Tiki expedition, in which he sailed 4,300 miles by
raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands.
