 Pat Garrett
was an American Old
West lawman, bartender, and customs agent who was best known for killing
Billy the Kid. He was also the sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico.
Today, most historians believe Jesse Wayne Brazel, who confessed to the
shooting Garrett and was tried for first degree murder, did in fact commit the
crime. Garrett died February 29, 1908.
