Boynton Pass Spiced Apple Cider

Makes 8 servings

Prep Time: 10 min
Cooking Time: 20 min


  • 2     quart apple cider
  • 1/3  cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 8     whole allspice
  • 8     whole cloves
  • 3     cinnamon sticks
  • 2     thin slices gingerroot
  • 1     Orange
  • 2     Tablespoons raisins


  1. Pour cider into a 3 to 4 quart non - reactive pan. Next stir in the brown sugar.
  2. Into a 12 inch square cheesecloth, place allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and ginger root. 
  3. Bring corners together and tie.  Drop spice bag into cider. Bring to a simmer. 
  4. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Discard spice bag.
  5. Cut orange in half lengthwise, then cut crosswise to make 1/8 - inch thick half slices (discard ends). 
  6. On bamboo skewers, thread lengthwise 1 orange slice; skewer 4 or 5 raisins below orange slice. 
  7. Ladle hot cider into mugs or cups and place a skewer of fruit in each.
