Philly Sausage Grinder

Sandwich Recipes from AlansKitchen.comMakes 4 servings or 16 appetizer servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 - package Regular Flavor Pork Sausage
  • 1 - cup thinly sliced onions
  • 1 - cup thinly sliced green pepper
  • 1/2 - teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 - teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 - cup prepared spaghetti sauce
  • 2 - (12") Italian rolls, cut in half lengthwise
  • 4 - ounces mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • crushed red pepper (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 F.

  1. In a large skillet, cook sausage, onions, peppers and oregano over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until meat is thoroughly cooked and no longer pink.
  2. Stir in garlic and spaghetti sauce, reduce heat to low and simmer five minutes.
  3. Hollow out each roll with a knife, leaving a 1/2" shell.
  4. Fill rolls with sausage mixture. Cover with mozzarella slices.
  5. Bake directly on oven rack for 20 minutes.
  6. Serve whole, or for appetizers cut into 1-1/2" slices.
  7. Sprinkle with crushed red pepper if desired.
