Swiss Fondue Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 4 - Tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 - cups sliced onions
  • 1/2 - teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 - teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/8 - teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 - slices (1-ounce) Deli Swiss or Swiss & American Cheese
  • 8 - slices marbled rye or hearty grain bread

Directions:

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in 10-inch skillet until sizzling. Add onions and garlic salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are browned.
  3. Stir in lemon juice and nutmeg.
  4. Layer 1 slice bread with 1 slice cheese, about 3 tablespoons onions, 1 slice cheese and 1 slice bread.
  5. Spread remaining butter on both sides of sandwiches.
  6. Cook in same skillet over medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.
