Peppy Pork Sausage Calzone

Makes 8 servings

Peppy Pork Sausage CalzoneIngredients

  • 1 - teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (depending on heat preference)
  • 12 - Roll Sausage (or patties)
  • 14 - ounces Marinara Sauce
  • 1/3 - cup Ricotta Cheese
  • 1/2 - small Red Onion
  • 6 - ounces Mushrooms sliced
  • 2 - tube (10 ounces) Refrigerated Pizza Dough
  • 2 - cups Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 - Egg beaten

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets.

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Cook and crumble sausage until firm. Drain off fat.
  3. Add mushrooms and onions and saute until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer mixture to a large bowl and add marinara sauce, ricotta, mozzarella and pepper flakes. Combine.
  5. Remove dough from package and unfold dough.
  6. Gently stretch to 11-12 inch square.
  7. Cut each dough into 4 even squares.
  8. Spoon about 1/3 cup in center of each square.
  9. Fold dough over to form a triangle.
  10. Press dough with a fork to seal.
  11. Brush Calzones with egg wash.
  12. Cut a small hole in the center of the Calzone to allow steam to escape.
  13. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and serve.
