The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in northern Georgia
comprises two National Forests, the Oconee National Forest and
Chattahoochee National Forest. The combined total area of the
Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest is 865,855 acres, of which the
Chattahoochee National Forest comprises 750,502 acres and the Oconee
National Forest comprises 115,353 acres. The county with the largest
portion of the forest is Rabun County, Georgia, which has 148,684
acres within its boundaries.

tables and grills, are located on each side of the �beach� area.
The bath house is located centrally. Paved trails wind through the
area. Designated paved parking is available for about 60 vehicles. A
group shelter is available.

Brasstown Bald Picnic Site
Directions: Take U.S. 19 and 129 south from Blairsville for 8
miles, turn left (east) on Georgia 180 for 9 miles; then left on
Georgia 180 spur for 3 miles.
Site Information: Paved roads to area, but expect curving and
steep terrain, especially going up GA 180 spur. Check road
conditions before winter travel.
Site Amenities: There are many steps to enter the visitors
center; help is sometimes available for access. Shuttle busses are
not equipped for wheel chairs. Vehicles with handicapped permits or
licenses are allowed access to the summit. The men's restroom at the
summit is equipped with hand rails. Drinking water is available at
this area. People with a disability should contact the shuttle bus
driver for assistance.
Requirements: The visitor center is open weekends beginning
mid-April; open 7 days a week Memorial Day until early November.
Parking lot and observation deck are open yearlong, weather
permitting. Parking fees and shuttle fees are required.
Recommended Seasons: Spring through Fall.
