Airplane Flat [No Drinking Water]

Access #1(41 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel 33 miles east on paved State Hwy. 260. Turn right on Young Road/Forest Road (FR) 512 (unpaved) and continue for 3 miles to FR 33. Turn left on FR 33 and travel 5 miles to the site.

Access #2(28 miles north of Young): From Young, take unpaved State Hwy. 288/Forest Road (FR) 512 north for 23 miles to FR 33. Turn right onto FR 33. Follow FR 33 for 5 miles to the site.


Upper Canyon Creek [No Drinking Water]

Access #1 (41 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel 33 miles east on paved State Hwy.  260. Turn right on unpaved Young Road/Forest Road (FR) 512, and continue on for 3 miles to FR 33. Turn left on unpaved FR 33 and travel for 5 miles to the site.

Access #2 (28 miles north of Young): From Young, take State Hwy. 288/Forest Road (FR) 512./north for 23 miles to FR 33. Turn right onto FR 33. Taking FR 33, it�s about 5 miles to the site.


Haigler Canyon [No Drinking Water]

Access #1 (32 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel east for 24 miles on State Hwy.  260. Turn right on unpaved Forest Road (FR) 291 and travel 3 miles to FR 200, (unpaved); turn right. Travel on FR 200 for 5 miles to the site.

Access #2 (12 miles north of Young): From Young, travel 3 miles north on State Hwy.  288/Forest Road (FR) 512 to FR 200. Turn left on FR 200 and travel for 9 miles to the site.


Alderwood [No Drinking Water]

Access #1 (34 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel east for 24 miles on paved State Hwy. 260. Turn right on Forest Road (FR) 291 (unpaved) and travel 3 miles to FR 200. Turn right on unpaved FR 200. Travel on FR 200 for 6 miles, through Haigler Canyon Recreation Site to FR 202A. Turn right and follow this unpaved road for � mile to the site.

Access #2 (11 miles north of Young): From Young, take State Hwy. 288/Forest Road (FR) 512 for 3 miles and turn left on FR 200. Follow unpaved FR 200 for 7 miles to FR 202A and turn left. Follow FR 202A for 1/2 mile to the site.


Colcord Ridge [No Drinking Water]

Access #1 (36 miles east of Payson): From Payson, travel 33 miles east on paved State Hwy. 260. Turn right on unpaved Young Road/Forest Road (FR) 512 and continue 3 miles to the site.

Access #2 (23 miles north of Young): From Young, take unpaved State Hwy. 288/Forest Road (FR) 512 about 23 miles to the site. 


Reynolds Creek Group (Fee Site) [No Drinking Water]

19 miles south of Young and 50 miles north of Globe, on State Hwy. 288 (unpaved) to Forest Road (FR) 247.

Workman Creek Area [No Drinking Water]

  • Workman Creek is the habitat for whitetail deer, bear, elk, turkey, javelina, mountain lion and many other animal species.

Workman Creek is located off State Hwy. 288, approximately 22 miles north of the junction of State Highway 288 and State Highway 88.  Workman Creek Road/Forest Road (FR) 487 runs along the creek for approximately 3 miles, then past the falls about 2 miles to the Aztec Peak Lookout Tower. A high-clearance vehicle is advised for travel above the Falls Recreation Site.


Valentine Ridge [No Drinking Water]

Access #1 (40 miles east of Payson) From Payson, travel 33 miles east on paved State Hwy.  260. Turn right on unpaved Young Road/Forest Road (FR) 512, and continue for approximately 5 miles to unpaved FR 188. Turn left on FR 188 and travel 2 miles to the site.

Access #2 (22 miles north of Young) From Young, take State Hwy. 288/Forest Road (FR) 512/Young Road, north for 20 miles to FR 188;turn right onto FR 188 and follow it for 2 miles to the site.
