Plum Preserve
Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 8 6-ounce glasses


  • 3 - pounds plums

  • 2 - oranges, juice and grated rind

  • 1 - cup seedless raisins, chopped

  • 4 - cups sugar

  • 1 - cup nutmeats, chopped


  1. Wash plums, cut up and pit. 

  2. In a saucepan at low heat, place the plums, orange juice, grated rind, and raisins.

  3. Add sugar and constantly stir until you dissolve the sugar.

  4. Increase heat to moderate and boil rapidly for 20 minutes or until mixture thickens.

  5. Constantly stir the mixture.  Add the nutmeats.

  6. Pour into hot jelly glasses.  Cool and seal with paraffin.
