Baked Chicken

Ingredients:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400° F.

  1. Split the chickens, wash, and dry. 

  2. Put the shortening and butter in baking pan, add hot water. 

  3. Put in the chicken and bake for 30 minutes or until lightly browned. 

  4. You want to turn and frequently baste. 

  5. Add the salt and pepper. 

  6. Reduce the temperature to 325° F and continue to bake for 15 minutes.

  7. To prepare the gravy, in a saucepan add the giblets to water with the onion. 

  8. Cook until giblets are tender. 

  9. After you have removed the chicken, in the baking pan brown the flour with the chicken drippings. 

  10. Thin with the giblet water. 

  11. When done, chop the giblets and add to the baking pan’s flour mixture. 

  12. Stir gravy and pour into the gravy boat. 

  13. Pour over baked chicken and serve.
