Walnut Pie

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 2 (8-inch) pies
Prep Time: 15 min
Baking Time: 10 min + 30 min


  •        Rich Pastry
  • 2     Tablespoons butter
  • 1     cup light brown sugar
  • 3     Tablespoons flour
  • 3     eggs, separated
  • 1     cup molasses
  • 1/2  cup water
  • 1/2  cup milk
  • 1     teaspoon vanilla
  • 1     cup walnut meats


Preheat oven to 450� F.

  1. Use Rich Pastry
  2. Roll out bottom crust and line deep pie dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar and flour. 
  4. Beat egg yolks and mix with butter and sugar mixture. 
  5. Mix molasses, water, and milk, pour in and mix. 
  6. Add stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla.
  7. Line 2 pie dishes with pastry, sprinkle walnuts over the bottom.  
  8. Pour in butter mixture  and bake 10 minutes, lower heat and bake 30 minutes at 350�.
