Brown Beef Stew II

  • 4 - pounds beef roast

  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 - teaspoon pepper

  • 1/4 - teaspoon paprika

  • 3 - Tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 4 - cups water

  • 6 - onions, chopped

  • 1/2 - cup carrots, chopped

  • 2 - stalks celery, chopped

  • 1-1/2 - cup tomatoes, chopped


  1. To the beef roast, rub in the salt, pepper, and paprika. 

  2. Dredge seasoned beef roast in the flour. 

  3. In a frying pan at moderate to high heat, melt butter and sear beef roast and brown on all sides. 

  4. To a large pot at low heat, place the beef roast, gradually add the water, and simmer.

  5. To the frying pan, brown the onions, carrots, celery and tomatoes. 

  6. Add the browned vegetables to the pot. 

  7. Continue to simmer for 2-1/2-hours. 

  8. Add water if needed.

  9. Remove the beef roast and vegetables and thicken juice with flour. 

  10. Serve with Grumbera Knepp, pour the gravy over the roast and dumplings.
