Spiced Ginger Cookies

  •    3/4  cup brown sugar

  •    1/2  cup shortening

  •    3/4  teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in 1/2 teaspoon vinegar

  •    1/2  cup molasses

  • 2 to 2-1/2  cup flour, sifted

  •    1/4  teaspoon ginger

  •    1/4  teaspoon cloves

  • 1-1/2  teaspoon cinnamon


Preheat oven to 350� F. Grease cookie sheets.

  1. Cream sugar and shortening, add soda and vinegar. 

  2. The vinegar is to make the cookies snap. 

  3. Place molasses in large mixing bowl, add mixture to the molasses, sift in flour and spices. 

  4. If dough seems not stiff enough, add a little more flour. 

  5. Roll out thin on floured board and cut in shapes.

  6. Place on cookie sheets.

  7. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
