German Nut Cake
Makes 1 large cake.
- 5 - eggs
- 1-1/2 - cups sugar
- 1 - cup flour
- 1-1/2 - teaspoons baking powder
- 1 - teaspoon allspice
- 1 - teaspoon cloves
- 1 - teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 - teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 - cup blanched almonds, chopped
- 1 - teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 - teaspoon almond extract
Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease & flour large, shallow pan.
Beat eggs lightly, add sugar and stir
Add flour, sifted with a pinch of salt, the baking powder,
and the spices.
Dredge almonds in a little flour and fold in.
Pour batter into pan. Bake and begin to raise heat gradually to 375° F.
Bake from 45
to 60 minutes. Cool cake in the pan. Cut into squares.
