Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 1 (8-inch cake)




Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease & flour 2 (8-inch) layer cake pans.

  1. With mixer, cream butter and sugar, stir in lightly beaten egg yolks. 
  2. Sift flour and baking powder several times, add to mixture alternately with milk. 
  3. Add vanilla and egg whites, stiffly beaten with the salt. 
  4. Pour batter into pans.
  5. Bake for about 30 minutes. Cool.
  6. To make icing, in a saucepan melt chocolate, blend with sugar, add vanilla and stiffly beaten egg white. 
  7. Spread between layers and on top and sides of cake.
