25-Minute Steak Diane

Makes 4 servings
Prep time: 5 min.
Cooking time: 20 min.


  • 1 - Tablespoon butter

  • 2 - Tablespoons shallots or onion, finely chopped

  • 2 - cloves garlic, crushed

  • 4 - boneless beef sirloin strip steaks cut 3/4-inch thick

  • 1 - cup sliced fresh mushrooms

  • 1/4 - cup beef broth

  • 2 - Tablespoons brandy

  • 2 - teaspoons Dijon-style mustard

  • 1 - teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 - teaspoons parsley, finely chopped


  1. In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, add butter and melt. 

  2. Add shallots and garlic. 

  3. Cook for 2 minutes. 

  4. Stir in mushrooms and cook for 3 to 4 more minutes. 

  5. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  6. Increase heat to medium-high. Add steaks and cook for 6 to 7 minutes for medium-rare (140 F), turning once. 

  7. Remove steaks to a warm platter.

  8. Decrease heat to medium. 

  9. Add broth, brandy, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and reserved mushroom mixture. 

  10. Bring to a boil. 

  11. Stir until liquid is slightly reduced, for about 1 minute. 

  12. Spoon sauce over steaks and sprinkle with parsley.

Picnicking & Tailgating

I have done this just before leaving for the picnic or tailgate party.  I have done it also ahead of time.  When I do it ahead of time, I warm it up in the microwave before packing it for the trip.  Then I place it in thermal container until I reach the picnic or tailgate site.
