Most recipes that call for brown sugar call for “firmly pack.” 

Try this method. 

Fill the correct dry measure with brown sugar. 

Then use the next size down. 

For example, if you need 1-cup firmly packed brown sugar, use the bottom of the 3/4-measuring cup to pack the brown sugar down.
