Traditional Pumpkin Pie

Pie, Pastry & Tart RecipesMake one (9-inch) pie
Prep Time: 20 min
Baking Time: 15+40 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 - can (15-ounce) can pumpkin (2 cups)
  • 1 - can (14-ounce) sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 - teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 - teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 - teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 1 - (9-inch) unbaked pie crust
  • Your Favorite Toppings (Recipes below)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425F.

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  2. Pour into pie crust. Bake 15 minutes. 
  3. Reduce oven temperature to 350F and continue baking 35 to 40 minutes or as directed with one Favorite Topping, or until knife inserted 1 inch from crust comes out clean.
  4. Cool. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

Your Favorite Toppings

Sour Cream Topping

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 - cups sour cream
  • 2 - Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In medium bowl, combine sour cream, sugar and vanilla extract. 
  2. After pie has baked 30 minutes at 350, spread evenly over top. 
  3. Bake 10 minutes.

Streusel Topping

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 - cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 - cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 - cup (1/2 stick) cold butter or margarine
  • 1/4 - cup chopped nuts

Directions:

  1. In medium bowl, combine packed brown sugar and all-purpose flour. 
  2. Cut in butter or margarine until crumbly.  Stir in chopped nuts.
  3. After pie has baked 30 minutes at 350, sprinkle evenly over top.  
  4. Bake 10 minutes.

Chocolate Glaze

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon solid shortening

Directions:

  1. In small saucepan over low heat, melt semi-sweet chocolate chips and solid shortening. 
  2. Drizzle or spread over top of baked pie.
