Cherry Wink Cookies

  •       1  cup + 2-Tablespoons all-purpose flour, sifted
  •    1/2  teaspoon double acting baking powder
  •    1/4  teaspoon baking soda
  •    1/4  teaspoon salt
  •       6  Tablespoon shortening
  •    1/2  cup sugar
  •       1  egg
  •       1  Tablespoon milk
  •    1/2  teaspoon vanilla
  •    1/2  cup chopped dates
  •    1/2  cup chopped pecans
  •       6  maraschino cherries chopped.
  • 1-1/4  cups corn flakes


Preheat oven to 375 F. and grease cookie sheets.

  1. In a bowl, sift together flour baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat well.  Gradually add flour mixture to sugar mixture. Mix thoroughly.

  2. Add dates, pecans, and cherries and mix well.  Shape into balls using a rounded teaspoon of dough for each. Crush corn flakes and roll each dough ball into corn flakes.

  3. Place on prepared cookie sheet. Top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.  Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
