Preheat oven
to 425° F.
- In a medium-mixing
bowl, add the cornmeal, stir in the boiling water and shortening.
- Stir in the
buttermilk, eggs, soda, and salt.
- Beat
thoroughly and turn into a well-greased, hot baking pan.
- You want the batter to be 3/4-inch deep.
- Put into the oven.
- Bake
30 minutes.
- Cut into
squares and serve.
