Mulled
Wine
Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Navel Orange

- small lemon
1 -
(750-ml) bottle dry red wine

- cup sugar
5 -
black peppercorns
4 -
whole cloves
2 -
whole star anise

- teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- With a vegetable
peeler, remove orange and lemon peel and keep.
- Next, with a hand juicer, squeeze juice from the orange and lemon.
- In a saucepan,
combine the wine, zest (the orange and lemon peels, juices, sugar,
peppercorns, cloves, star anise, and nutmeg.
Simmer at a low temperature and add sugar.
- You want to cook until sugar you dissolved the sugar.
- After sugar is dissolved, continue to simmer for an additional 2
minutes.
- Pour mulled wine
through a fine sieve into a heatproof pitcher.
- Just pour and serve.
Picnicking &
Tailgating:
If you make the mulled wine ahead of time, heat on the stove
or microwave just before leaving. Pour
into a thermos. Just pour and
serve at your picnic or tailgate site.
