Mountaineer Heritage Scenic Trail

This Scenic Road Trips begins on US 33 at he West Virginia / Virginia atop the Shenandoah Mountain. You will travel on US from the border to just West of Elkins where you will travel North on US 250 to Philippi. North of US 250 at Philippi, you will come to WV 76. Go West on WV 76 to Bridgeport West Virginia.

You are in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are U.S. National Forests that combine to form one of the largest areas of public land in the Eastern United States.

Landmark: Shenandoah Mountain

Here on the border you are on Shenandoah Mountain is a mountain ridge, approximately 65 miles long, between West Virginia and Virginia.

As you cross into West Virginia you enter Pendleton County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia.

Seneca Rocks is an unincorporated community located in Pendleton County, West Virginia.

The community also lies near Seneca Rocks, the crag from which it takes its name.  Both lie within the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest.

The Monongahela National Forest (MNF) was established by the U.S. Congress in 1915 as the 7,200-acre Monongahela Purchase. It became a U.S. National Forest on April 28, 1920 and now encompasses 910,155 acres.
